Preview and Artists’ talks: Thursday 25 September, 6.30 -8pm
Open Studio continues: 26-28 September 2008, 12-6pm daily
Currently participating in Gasworks’ international residency programme artists Wilfredo Prieto (Cuba/Spain) and Seema Nusrat (Pakistan) open their studios to the public.
Wilfredo Prieto’s residency is granted as part of The Cartier Award, a prestigious annual award for a non-UK based artist. Whilst on residency at Gasworks, Prieto has developed a major project which will be unveiled at Frieze Art Fair 2008. The open studio offers the unique opportunity to gain an insight and discuss with the artist his experiences of producing this new commission, within the climate of an internationally recognised art fair.
During her residency Seema Nusrat has continued an ongoing exploration of the body. Responding to her immediate surroundings, she has become interested in consumption habits which she sees as specific to Londoners. Nusrat has incorporated this into her work by using take-away plastic cutlery to create shell-like constructions; aggregates of matter whose resultant forms appear unforeseen and uncontrolled. Based in Karachi, Nusrat is the third recipient of the Charles Wallace-Rangoonwala residency award.
Thursday 25 September: Preview and Artists’ Talks, 6.30 – 7.30pm
At the preview of their open studio both artists will make public presentations of their work offering an insight into their practices and reflecting upon their experiences whilst on residency at Gasworks. Wilfredo Prieto will participate in this event via a live Skype interview.
