Brighton-based artists Sophie Dickson and Max Gimson have been selected for a two month residency at Organhaus, China. During their stay, both artists will observe and respond to the vast city of Chongqing, its rapid development and the relationship between the city and its inhabitants. They will also lead talks and exchanges with local artists, culminating in an open studio event.
More on the artists:
Sophie Dickson produces abstract paintings and drawings, incorporating materials such as boot polish, metal paint and crushed bricks, playfully experimenting with representation and observation.
Max Gimson's paintings and drawings depict both the silence and chaos present within everyday life. Gimson describes his work serving as 'reminders of human interaction with things..through this, forms that are both of paint and of the body experience the ‘things’ within the work'.
Both artists live and work in Brighton.
