David Bestué was born in Barcelona where he lives and works. His two month residency at Gasworks provided him with an opportunity to work in a new context alongside other international and local artists.
In his practice, both working alone and in collaboration with Marc Vives, Bestué uses different media such as performance, video, photography, text and installation. He experiments with ideas taken from philosophy, art history, architecture or film, testing out how far they can be pushed, both literally and conceptually. By making small changes to public and domestic scenarios, his works create absurd situations that question our conventions of behaviour.
Recent solo exhibitions by David Bestué include Enric Miralles, Arkitekturmuseet, Stockholm (2008); Historia de la Espuma, Centre Cultural Sa Nostra, Palma de Mallorca / Eivissa / Menorca (2008). Exhibitions in duo with Marc Vives include Cisnes y Ratas, Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo (2009); La Confirmación, Centre d'Art Santa Mònica, Barcelona/ Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo, Madrid
(2009); Performances at Home / Performances in the body, Ersta Konsthall, Stockholm (2007). Their work has also been shown in international exhibitions such as Everyday's, Casino de Luxembourg, Luxembourg (2010); Making Worlds, 53rd Biennale di Venezia (2009); El mal d'escriptura, MACBA, Barcelona (2009) and Everstill, Huerta de San Vicente, Casa-Museo Federico García Lorca, Granada (2007).
