Gasworks presents a screening of Dreaming X, a new film by Antonia Luxem, made during her residency at Gasworks in 2021.
Dreaming X follows X’s dreamlike journey inside a mysterious and dark universe in which she encounters a number of puzzling characters, and disorientation, hallucinations and mesmeric rhythms transport her to the circus.
After the screening, Luxem will be in conversation with curator Anna Colin.
This event is free to attend and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Entry will not be permitted after the event starts.
Please be aware that the film features some scenes with strobe lighting.
Antonia Luxem creates films to explore different realities and bodies, and to transport viewers to new mental spaces. Her works have been inspired by subjects ranging from human perception, thought processes and the brain’s visual interpretations of sounds from space, to the individual’s anxiety in relation to the universe and the passing of time, and dreams. Recently her subject matters have expanded to include questions of queer identity and homophobia. Her work has been shown in exhibitions and film festivals in the UK and abroad. Recent screenings and exhibitions include Well Projects, Margate; Fragment Gallery, Moscow; B3 Biennal of the moving image, Frankfurt; Swiss Church, London; Turf Projects, Croydon; LIMBO, Margate; Whitstable Biennial, Guest Projects, London. Recent film festivals include New York Independent Film Festival, New York; Underwire Film Festival, London; KINOSKOP Analogue Festival, Belgrade; Traverse Video, Toulouse; East End Film Festival, London.
