Una Sola Casa is an art project created by artists Inti Hernandez (Cuba) and Ana Laura Lopez de la Torre (Uruguay/UK), as part of Gasworks Residency Programme, in collaboration with the Latin American Housing Co-op.

The main objective of the project is to instigate and support the creative energy of the Latin American community in Lambeth, celebrating its presence and its contribution to the cultural diversity of London. Additionally, the project intends to find new platforms for exchange and collaboration between Latin American artists, and community leaders and organizations.

The project aims to look at the needs and aspirations of this community in order to support it in realising its potential through the instigation of activities and the provision of new resources. In parallel, an advocacy campaign with materials designed by the artists seeks to capture the attention of key governmental figures and service providers on a local and national level.

Una Sola Casa consists of a series of activities led by Latin American people with initiative, vision and the capacity for inspiring others. Ana Laura and Inti are working in collaboration with these people, lending their creative abilities and their experience in planning and delivering cultural events of a professional standard. Una Sola Casa will end with a large promotional campaign, involving the distribution of five thousand postcards in public spaces around Lambeth, and a map of Latin Lambeth designed by the artists, that will be distributed as a centre spread poster in the May edition of community newspaper Noticias Latin America. Una Sola Casa culminates with a big party open to all community members, to celebrate the outcomes of the project.

All the activities were planned after extensive consultation with the Members of the Latin American Housing Coop, and responded closely to their needs and interests. The richness and variety of the work produced was only possible thanks to the generous contribution of many individuals and organisations, including Latin American artists and art institutions, local businesses, community media and organisations, and many individuals who contributed their ideas, experiences and encouraging words.

Many people have committed masses of time, resources, skills and energy into this project, and besides those mentioned above, Inti and Ana Laura would like to thank Cecilia Fominaya and Martha Elsesser for their invaluable support.
